Golden Wing Mau Report on Apples Week 20, 2015

Arrivals of Chilean Royal Gala in week 20 increase slightly as departures from week 16 entered the market. These arrivals however had little impact on the prevailing market consisting of large volumes of stored fruit. Price levels remained similar to week 19 with most Chilean Extra Fancy able to find movement between ¥180-220 (count #100/113, 19kg) as the best Premium specification could move at ¥240-260 (count #100/113). Fruit sized either too large or small however sold for reduced values in most markets.

New Zealand Royal Gala also remained at similar levels with Chilean volumes the main factor determining pricing of the fruit. Well colored Class 1 apples priced between ¥230-250 (count #90, 17.6/18kg).

Red Deliciousarrivals remained steady with movement for the fruit staying sluggish but manageable. Arrivals of larger sized fruits have during the season been more prone to bruising and other forms of external damage, this causing buyers to be more weary of the larger sizes inspecting with more scrutiny. Most Premium grade U.S.A fruit remained priced between ¥250-290 as Extra Fancy remained at ¥200- 240 (count #72/80, 20kg).

New Zealand Queencontinued to price and move between ¥370-400 (different counts) with some brands with excellent quality although not much better than most fruit, asking for premiums of ¥10-20. Generally there was a price differential per size of ¥10-20 seen in favor of larger sized NZ Queen. Movement remained manageable.

For the Chilean Royal Gals, year to date volumes are up 45% at 411k cartons shipped. Departures from week 17 through to 19 should give space to clear stocks that have built up during the first arrivals, with price levels also possibly becoming more favorable.
